The Importance of Good Metabolic HealthShawn Slevin
Awareness & an understanding of how Metabolic Health interacts with your health & well-being is important & needs to be a high priority. Our metabolism covers every biomechanical process that occurs in our body. Enhancing our Metabolic Health is an area that requires proactive effort. Metabolism has two states, either building substances, known as anabolism, or breaking down substances known as catabolism.
Metabolic Health has a specific definition. It relates to having ideal levels of blood sugar, triglycerides, (HDL) cholesterol, blood pressure & waist size in a natural state i.e. without using medications to achieve this outcome. Being Metabolically unhealthy increase factors that causally relate to a heightened risk of heart disease, diabetes 2, cardiovascular disease, stroke & hypertension. Metabolic Health directly impacts your state of health & can be determined using Biomarkers. These are a biological molecule found in blood, other body fluids or tissues that signal healthy or unhealthy processes, conditions, or diseases. Biomarkers provide extremely accurate results.
These are the current statistics relating to Metabolic Health in the USA:
- Only 1 person in every 8 has Good Metabolic Health.
- The estimate for over 20 years of age affected with Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) is 34%
- An estimated 9.4% of Adolescent’s have MetS rising to 44.2% in cases with obesity.
- MetS is considered a major public health problem.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has stated that MetS is a Global Epidemic. Humanity has been rocked by the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Many people that lost their lives to COVID-19 were elderly with one or more pre-existing or one or more serious pre-existing health conditions. Due to this combination their immune systems were severely compromised & the most up to date knowledge & medical care could not change the outcome. Many people of all ages have been left with major deterioration of their health or pre-existing health together with friends & families being devastated with what they have witnessed.
Throughout history there have been numerous pandemics in the form of either viruses or plagues with the difference being whether it is viral or bacterial. Like an active volcano we know it will erupt again but even the latest technology we cannot predict when. However, we hold all the aces & the power to shape our future viral & bacterial outbreaks & outcomes. For this to be realized Society needs to shift its mindset from medical & technological lifesaving to a far more amazing lifesaver within the bodies we inhabit. People like us have created nearly everything around us on the earths surface. I can guarantee you that with an initial investment of small to medium changes in nutrition & exercise your Metabolic Health will be enhanced. It starts with a Choice, a pinch of motivation, then it becomes a routine & as you see results it becomes easy & natural.
